Building Economic and Social Trust in Ethiopia (BEST Ethiopia) is a board-led Civil Society Organization (CSO) established in May 2021 in response to the conflict and humanitarian crisis in the country. It is dedicated to eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. BEST Ethiopia was officially registered as an Ethiopian CSO on 10 August 2021 with registration number 5772 under the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO).

The organization’s head office is located in Bahir Dar, with field offices in Dabat and Debre Markos. It operates across the Amhara region, including North Gondar, East and West/North Gojjam, and Awi Zones, focusing on humanitarian response, life-saving interventions, and trauma management for conflict-affected communities, environmental sanitation, and the documentation of indigenous knowledge.

BEST Ethiopia envisions “an empowered society in Ethiopia that determines its future with dignity.” Its mission is “to work with women, children, youth, disadvantaged groups, and key stakeholders through inclusive and integrated development approaches, enabling communities to take ownership of their development and determine sustainable livelihood options.”

Currently, the organization has 13 registered volunteers who facilitate community development activities, mobilize in-kind resources, and provide support to affected pregnant and lactating women as well as children. BEST Ethiopia has already developed key organizational policies, including its bylaw, strategic plan, financial and procurement management, human resource, and safeguarding guidelines. As the organization grows, the board of directors will expand this policy framework to ensure effective delivery of its objectives.
